Golf has been around for a while and its history is quite interesting. In fact, it has existed for at least 500 years, since it was banned in Scotland by James II in 1457 because it interfered with the practice of archery in the Scottish Kingdom. As a result, you can see that the game is quite old, but the one who created it is not known for sure, although many countries like to claim it! It is believed that golf was born when shepherds who cared for their herds were bored and created a game using their wooden crooks to hit rocks in rabbit holes. It may not be exactly how golf was invented, but it’s legend!
The game was originally played without greens and the holes were only open spaces in the ground wherever there was a space considered sufficiently flat. The grass was not meticulously guarded and the holes were designed very simply. Forget the water features with waterfalls and beautiful landscapes.
The first golf clubs were made by craftsmen who used to make bows and arrows for the war. The first manufacturer of golf clubs registered is William May be from 1603, the year of his creation of clubs for James I. The clubs were carved with holly, beech, dogwood, apple or pear and the sleeves in hazel or Ash "whip" better when swayed. And if you think it’s amazing, you’ll be shocked by the first golf balls. They were made of hand-stitched leather that was then filled with boiled feathers. These feather balls actually had some distance and could travel up to 180 meters. In the mid-1800s, it was discovered that a substance known as gutta-percha could become a hard bullet and that it played better at the end of the game than at the beginning due to scratches. So, a new design has been done that has small marks everywhere. The result was incredible and the feather balls were put to rest.
Today, we have golf balls that can travel a lot further and are designed for different types of golfers! In addition, clubs have different lengths and sizes to fit your size, not to mention that there are special models to help you push the ball further. This, in addition to the trend of golf communities, makes golf an amazing sport that has been going on for a long time. However, no one would have thought there are hundreds of years that a golf course community would actually exist to say they were so popular!
